The host of Sword and Scale, Mike Boudet has posted a racially unpleasant poll on Twitter. Boudet was sacked by Wondery in 2019 after similar Twitter comments, and was widely accused of orchestrating one-star reviews against a competitor. He has denied that he left one star reviews; and is also the subject of a YouTube documentary. We've again asked for comment.

Spotify is now producing the audio section of US airline Delta's in-flight seatback entertainment. The service contains mixtapes of music, and 42 podcast series including Gimlet's Science Vs, The Ringer's The Dave Chang Show and WSJ/Gimlet's The Journal, as well as Crime Junkie (which isn't a Spotify show). Spotify's original deal with Delta was announced two years ago: at that time it was podcast-only, and Delta was seeing around 16.5m passengers every month; JetBlue also signed with Spotify in November 2019. Podcasts are also on other airlines.

Bye, Himalaya: the company is "transitioning away from podcasts towards audio courses". The company launched a $100m podcast platform in 2019, in a statement since claimed to be "partially false".

Tanner Campbell, who wrote a spirited call for Apple Podcasts to kill their reviews section, has written a follow-up, suggesting feedback is left private, not public. We'd tend to agree, especially after one disgruntled podcaster left us a one-star interview because he didn't like Podnews highlighting his poor behaviour: among other things, reporting an accusation that he was, um, leaving one-star reviews.

Lawyers acting on behalf of Mike Boudet have sent Justin Drown from Obscura a cease-and-desist letter, The Verge reports, after Drown accused Boudet of orchestrating negative one-star reviews against his podcast.

Sword & Scale's Mike Boudet has been widely accused by others of being behind these paid-for one-star ratings. We've no evidence of that, but have reached out to him multiple times for comment. (His email address? He's mailed us before.).

Sword and Scale earns at least $75,000 a month from Patreon, and after a review, Patreon has decided that its host, Mike Boudet, can remain on the platform, in spite of his denigrating comments and social media bullying. We reported on Monday that Wondery had sacked him from the network. He's also deleted all but 65 of his tweets. Patreon removed some creators last year.

Wondery has parted ways with Mike Boudet's true crime podcast Sword and Scale, after Boudet had repeatedly posted comments many found offensive, and behaved aggressively online. Sword and Scale posted an emotional announcement from Boudet, who blames Aaron Mahnke and Rabia Chaudry, and says he has laid off his staff and closed his show. Chaudry congratulates Wondery for "finally doing the right thing"; Mahnke claims, in a long thread, that Boudet has been increasingly aggressive and that hundreds of people had complained to Wondery. A freelance journalist called Maggi sums up the story from her point of view.
