Nevada City, California: A Ghostly Gold Rush Town

Nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains, just northeast of Sacramento, Nevada City, CA, is a historic Gold Rush town. Founded in 1849, it was one of the most important mining towns in California—though getting there wasn’t easy, as some early settlers traveled via the same treacherous route as the Donner Party. In this episode, we explore the National Exchange Hotel, a California Historical Landmark that has hosted many notable figures during the Gold Rush Era. Present day, the hotel is known to have some ghostly guests - a glimpse into a business meeting from the past, a lady in white roaming the halls, and a ghostly child seen riding a tricycle. We also step inside Firehouse No. 1, now a museum, where flying cabinet doors, phantom footsteps, and a red-haired woman playing a haunted organ have been reported. Then, we visit the Red Castle Inn, home to the lingering spirit of the Gray Lady, a devoted nanny who still checks on guests—sometimes by gently brushing their forehead while they sleep. Plus, we uncover some creepy history—like the Foreign Miners’ Tax, which unfairly targeted Chinese and Hispanic gold miners—and dive into the wild life of Lola Montez, a fiery performer known for her infamous Spider Dance (yes, it’s connected to tarantulas). Is Nevada City one of the most haunted places in California? Tune in for ghost stories, history, and plenty of spooky fun! Visit our website! A Friend, A Sheriff, & A Murder: Who Killed Eric Tamiyasu?

On June 30th, 2001, in the quiet town of Hood River, locals would be saddened by the discovery of Eric Tamiyasu’s body in his rural home. But nothing could prepare them for the shocking realization that would come just a day later following his autopsy. He had been shot three times in the head, his body left undisturbed in his bed for nearly a week prior to the gruesome discovery. There were no signs of forced entry and nothing was stolen. It appeared that whoever entered his home that night had one purpose—murder. On the day his body was discovered authorities made an inexplicable decision: they burned Eric’s mattress before determining his cause of death. Whether this was an act of negligence or the intentional destruction of evidence remains a point of controversy. The case, which seemed solvable in its early days, quickly became muddled by speculation, rumors, and lost forensic opportunities. Three main suspects emerged, though some speculate about a potential fourth. A business partner accused of embezzlement. A supposed close friend who knew more than he should have. A sheriff whose involvement in the case raised serious questions. There was even talk of a romantic rivalry, one that could have turned deadly without Eric even realizing. With each revelation, the mystery surrounding Eric’s death seemingly only deepened. Despite being featured on Unsolved Mysteries, no arrests have ever been made, and his family continues to seek justice. Was this a crime of passion, a financial dispute turned deadly, or something even more sinister? As we unravel the timeline, the evidence, and the missteps in the investigation, one thing becomes clear—someone knows the truth about what happened to Eric Tamiyasu. Visit our website! The Hollywood Bandit

This episode, we delve into the life and crimes of Scott Scurlock, the bank robber who captivated law enforcement, the media, and public in the early 1990s. Known as "Hollywood" for his cinematic disguises & high-stakes escapades. We’ll provide a glimpse into the life of Scott Scurlock, better known as the Hollywood Bandit. Born to a preacher father and special education teacher mother, Scott's early years gave no hint of the dark, adrenaline-fueled, and ultimately, criminal, path that he would later take. We explore Scurlock’s unconventional lifestyle, including the construction of his iconic treehouse hideout deep in forested Olympia, Washington, and his early involvement in manufacturing drugs. His seemingly addictive thirst for adrenaline led him to assemble a team of unlikely accomplices, execute meticulously planned heists, and evade capture for years—all while amassing an admittedly impressive stack of cash. Discover how Scurlock’s double life blurred the lines between villain and antihero. Follow his progression from manufacturing meth to orchestrating over a dozen daring bank robberies, all from his secluded treehouse fortress in the Washington woods. With insider tricks, movie-style prosthetics, and the detailed planning that earned him his Hollywood nickname, Scott’s criminal empire grew both in audacity & creativity. As his life spiraled deeper into chaos, Scott’s exploits caught the attention of the FBI and Seattle PD. You’ll learn about the detailed planning, daring heists, and of course the eventual standoff that sealed his fate. Join us as we uncover the motivations, mistakes, and legacy of one of the most infamous bank robbers in U.S. history.
