Truthless

This is a podcast about the lies people tell. Science says that 60% of people can’t get through a 10-minute conversation without telling at least one lie. (Ten minutes!) These lies, told by normal people, provide the backbone of this show. Truthless is a curiosity-driven storytelling show, featuring one central interview in each episode. Together, Brian and the guest will retell the story of a lie, and in the process try to make sense of the insecurities, desires and vanities that drove the guest to tell that lie in the first place. Season 1 will feature a wide spectrum of stories, including: catfishing; lying to your parents; inventing your family when talking to strangers; and faking your own death to get out of a job. The guests will include a few celebrities (Malcolm Gladwell, The Kid Mero), a few Ringer colleagues (Katie Baker, Rob Harvilla, Tyler Parker), some great stories told by less well-known names. The takeaway: everybody lies, and it’s worth hearing about.

Poignant and entertaining
Jan 23
From the best writer at theringer and honestly one of the best writers out there comes a truly interesting, clever, and entertaining pod that is absolutely worth a listen! Podcast voice doesn’t quite live up to the writing voice, but that’s an incredibly high bar to reach. At times a bit too sympathetic to lying or liars, but that contributes to how interesting it is - after all, how many people who at their core are good and trustworthy people lie, frequently, and for no noble reason?
Ok…

This podcast isn’t bad to listen to, but could be better. The history tends to repeat himself quite a bit to drag out episodes. He makes the same joke over and over again (like in the video store episode, “and he did that, as any normal person would…”). These stories are sometimes fun to listen to but it also feels like 3 minutes of story dragged out into a half hour.
Really good!

Really intriguing and interesting, draws you in. Host has a good mission and a very interesting take on lying, really enjoying this so far and can’t wait for the next episode 😆! Keep making episodes!
Inauthentic

Don’t understand why the Narrator’s narration is dripping with sarcasm at every turn. In addition he seems to fail to draw the obvious conclusion. The second episode suggests some sort of metaphor around someone or something growing too big and throwing caution to the wind. It ends by letting everyone including Icarus off the hook. Such a good idea presented so poorly.
