Crime Waves: Renaissance, TX
Uninterrupted Listening + Exclusive Bonus Episodes
$4.99/mo or $49.99/yr after trial
Season 2 of Crime Waves tells the story of The Texas Renaissance Festival, the largest — and rowdiest — ren fair in the nation. A place where reality and fantasy are blurred. You may think it’s all tights and turkey legs, but what if we told you that the festival has a dark side, too? Over the years, this ren fair has been the scene of murders, assaults, and other assorted crimes. We went to the fair to investigate this place where people live out their carnal fantasies and figure out just exactly how that could become so dangerous. But we didn't expect to find danger for us. Crime Waves is developed and produced by Faceplant and QCODE, in association with No Smiling. Follow the show now for the strangest true crime stories you’ve never heard of, told by the people who were there — and the ones who picked up the pieces.

Everything the Max series should have been
08/11/2024
I don’t know about the truth of the podcast as other review’s mention but I can tell you that this podcast is everything I expected the series on Max to be and wasn’t. As someone who has experience with the Texas Renaissance fair as well as others around the country, I throughly enjoyed the podcast.
Ehh.

Great production and storytelling, but the substance was weak sauce, talked to a bunch of disgruntled employees and sissy liberals, still pretty interesting listen No conclusion, No facts, no evidence
Pearl Clutchy

Honestly, I’m a bit of a prude, but the judgy tone of this podcast is a bit much. It was difficult to get through two episodes.
Sounds fake

If it isn’t fake, it sounds like it. Great topic but couldn’t get past the first few minutes due to terrible voice acting.
Interesting

Lots of allegations that aren’t backed up by documents or reports. I do commend the podcasters for their chutzpah in getting right in there and asking uncomfortable questions.
Lots of “reporting”, no resolution.
08/27/2024
I was drawn in by the story even though the narration sounded badly acted when it was presented as “live”. Unfortunately, by the last episode there is nothing resolved. Long story short, some bad things have happened over the years and nothing has been done to make the festival safer. There is wild speculation about many subjects backed up by absolutely nothing. I wish I hadn’t wasted my time listening to this.
Sounds scripted?
08/23/2024
I can’t explain it, but I feel like I’m listening to a fictional story. Nothing sounds real? It sounds like The Black Tapes lol and im sure the truth of this podcast might take up less than 8 minutes on a news channel
This dude is a joke grasping at a story
08/15/2024
He has NO direction in this story and is going above and beyond to find negative rhetoric about the faire he has NEVER been too other than to write this store fear mongering. He says he has absolutely no experience with ren faires in general so why are you writing a story in which you’re interview people begging for negative commentary? Everything he’s reporting on are the same things happening at bars, clubs, the festivals people pay hundreds to go to and CAMP at……get a grip find a better story. This is a joke. You willing went to a party, took your shirt off and let a topless woman feed you vodka then shame that community?? 😂😂
Great podcast

I used to live right before Todd mission in magnolia tx. I had heard rumors about the fair and George but didn’t know all of what happened and what goes on. Thank you for covering this story and sharing the victims and survivors stories as well.
Excellent!

I recently watched the Ren Fair documentary on max last month, and happened to stumble on this pod while cleaning up this morning . Without a shadow of doubt this pod definitely gives a clearer persecutive of George & his dealings as “King” of the Texas renaissance fair. I was completely gob smacked at some of the stories in the pod & now believe the documentary was nothing but a spin story. Personally, I think George is nothing more then an elderly sociopathic, megalomaniac who craves relevancy. His actions shows he doesn’t care about his workers or the public’s safety. This pod is excellent journalism at its best!
